Aziz Collins knows soul. This music has served as an inspiration to the singer/songwriter ever since he can remember and has played an intricate part in his life, first as a hobby, then leading to a full-time pursuit.
Aziz, a West Philadelphia native, began working toward a music career at the tender age of 13, then seeking recognition as a solo act. But it didn’t take long before he combined creative forces with his best friend Joshua Collins to form the award-winning, critically acclaimed duo United Soul, later known as U.City. Together the group released two full-length independent albums (Reservations in 2005 and The Fall in 2009); were recognized for their songwriting prowess by Billboard and ASCAP; penned leading singles and album cuts for soul stars, including Bilal Oliver, Joy Denalane and Kindred; and rocked stages from Philly’s renowned Five Spot to London’s infamous Jazz Café.
With this string of shared accomplishments under his belt, Aziz is now taking the time to re-focus on his solo career. His soon-to-be released independent project, NiteJob/DayDreamer, is a nod to his passion for his craft, having decided last year to focus full-time on music. On the project, Aziz uses emotive lyrics and engaging production to forge a complete, soulful sound. NiteJob/DayDreamer will find Aziz staying true to his roots while expanding the boundaries of what fans are used to. For him, this project, and his music career to date, is the essence of what he stands for and believes in. And also what he knows.
